What are the key features of Easy Walk® AFOs?
  • Pre-preg carbon fiber material
  • Energy return effect for enhanced gait
  • Lightweight and thin design
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • Individually adjustable for a perfect fit
  • Easy to put on and off with simple fastening
How does the "spring" effect in Easy Walk® AFOs work?

The carbon fiber used in Easy Walk® AFOs undergoes a special technological treatment, resulting in a “spring” effect. This feature provides energy return during walking, making movement easier and more natural for the wearer.

What conditions can Easy Walk® AFOs help with?

Easy Walk® AFOs are designed for various conditions, including:

  • Foot drop: Difficulty lifting the front part of the foot.
  • Ankle instability: Lack of control over ankle movements.
  • Spasticity: Stiff or rigid muscles that hinder normal movement.
  • Proprioceptive deficit: Inability to sense joint or limb position
What are the available models of Easy Walk® AFOs?
  • Rely (AFO10R): Designed for more complicated foot drop cases, offering maximal control and adjustability.
  • Fixation (AFO10F): Provides strong ankle support with lateral fixation for optimal gait cycle control.
  • Stability (AFO10T): Offers dynamic assistance and medial-lateral control.
  • Advance II (AFO12A): Optimized for toe-lift, with a lightweight structure and magnetic clasp.
  • Kite (AFO10K): A pediatric orthosis for children with dorsiflexion weakness and other conditions such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida.
Are Easy Walk® AFOs adjustable?

Yes, each model comes with adjustable features to ensure the best possible fit for the patient. For example, the Rely model has a 3D-printed calf support that is adjustable in height and angle.

How durable are Easy Walk® AFOs?

Easy Walk® AFOs undergo rigorous mechanical testing and have proven to be durable and long-lasting. For instance, the Pediatric Kite model passed over one million load cycles in compliance with ISO 10328 standards.

What materials are used in Easy Walk® AFOs?

Easy Walk® AFOs are made from pre-preg carbon fiber, a lightweight and strong material that provides the spring effect necessary for energy return during walking.

How do I choose the right Easy Walk® AFO model?

Choosing the right model depends on your specific condition and needs. You can compare different models on our website or consult with your healthcare provider to determine the most suitable orthosis for your condition.

How can I get an Easy Walk® AFO?

Easy Walk® AFOs are prefabricated and available in various sizes. They can be ordered through Ortho Baltic or a healthcare provider who will ensure the device is properly adjusted for the perfect fit.

What is the difference between the various Easy Walk® AFO models?

Each model is designed to address different levels of foot drop, ankle instability, and other specific needs:

  • Rely (AFO10R): Ideal for severe foot drop and ankle instability, with a focus on controlling ankle-foot movement while offering adjustable calf support.
  • Fixation (AFO10F): Best suited for patients requiring strong lateral fixation and energy return during gait. Provides maximal medial-lateral control.
  • Stability (AFO10T): Designed for enhanced stability with three-point fixation, offering rotational control and force distribution.
  • Advance II (AFO12A): Lightweight and thin, designed specifically for toe-lift assistance, with an easy-to-use magnetic clasp for fastening.
  • Pediatric Kite (AFO10K): Created for children with dorsiflexion weakness, offering ankle stabilization and energy return for enhanced walking ability.
Are Easy Walk® AFOs customizable?

Yes, while Easy Walk® AFOs are prefabricated, they are designed with adjustability in mind. For example, the footplates can be trimmed to fit, and certain models, such as the Rely and Stability AFOs, offer adjustable calf support to ensure maximum comfort and functionality for each patient.

What makes Easy Walk® AFOs different from other orthoses?

Easy Walk® AFOs stand out due to their use of pre-preg carbon fiber, which is not only lightweight but also provides a spring-like energy return effect. This technology helps enhance natural gait patterns, reduces fatigue, and makes the orthoses comfortable and easy to wear for extended periods. Additionally, their durability, adjustability, and tailored fit distinguish them from other AFOs.

What is pre-preg carbon fiber?

Pre-preg carbon fiber is a type of composite material that is pre-impregnated with resin, giving it a unique strength-to-weight ratio. In the case of Easy Walk® AFOs, this material allows for both lightweight construction and a “spring” effect, which assists with walking by providing energy return during movement.

Can Easy Walk® AFOs be used post-surgery?

Yes, several Easy Walk® models are suitable for patients recovering from surgery, particularly those with foot and calf extensor issues, or proprioceptive deficits. Models such as the Fixation (AFO10F) and Stability (AFO10T) are specifically designed to support and control the ankle-foot complex during post-surgical recovery.

How do Easy Walk® AFOs help children with mobility issues?

The Pediatric Kite (AFO10K) model is specially designed for children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or unstable gait due to dorsiflexion weakness. The Kite model stabilizes the ankle, provides medial-lateral control, and assists with energy return, which helps children walk more naturally and with less effort.

Are Easy Walk® AFOs tested for safety and durability?

Yes, all Easy Walk® AFOs undergo independent mechanical testing to ensure durability and performance. For example, the Pediatric Kite model has been tested to withstand over one million load cycles under ISO 10328 standards. These tests ensure that the AFOs provide long-lasting support for the patient.

Can I wear Easy Walk® AFOs with different types of shoes?

Yes, Easy Walk® AFOs are designed to be worn with various types of footwear. However, it is recommended to wear shoes that provide sufficient space for the AFO and offer good ankle support. For the best results, consult with your orthotist to find shoes that are compatible with your specific AFO model.

Spasticity.

Spasticity refers to abnormal muscle tightness due to prolonged muscle contraction, which can make movements like walking or bending joints difficult. It often occurs after damage to the brain or spinal cord, such as in conditions like stroke, multiple sclerosis, or cerebral palsy.

Proprioceptive Deficit.

Proprioceptive deficit is a loss of the sense of body position and movement, often caused by nerve damage or neurological conditions. It can lead to coordination issues, difficulty with balance, and a greater risk of falls, as your body struggles to detect the position of your limbs.
